City of Fort Myers Bicycle & Pedestrian Master Plan

Fort Myers, FL

City of Fort Myers Bicycle & Pedestrian Master Plan is part of an ongoing general planning consulting contract for the Lee County MPO. Efforts included an extensive inventory of existing bicycle and pedestrian facilities, literature research, a needs assessment, agency coordination, and a robust public outreach process. A project website was created to solicit input from the community. The website hosted an interactive online map, as well as a survey. More than 1,000 respondents provided valuable feedback through the online survey.

Recommendations included network improvements with regard to pedestrian, bicycle, and multimodal facilities; the consideration of a bicycle/pedestrian promenade; feasibility studies; the creation of a micromobility task force; wayfinding improvements; and program improvements (education, enforcement, encouragement, engineering, and administrative).

The master plan provides a guide, and will serve as a living document to help improve mobility and connectivity for multimodal travel within the city. Short-term improvements were identified, and infrastructure improvements were prioritized to assist the city with the future implementation of projects.
