Our team had the opportunity to serve the Molzen Corbin team on the New Mexico Department of Transportation Phase I Las Cruces I-25 Corridor Study project during the second half of 2020. Our role included subsurface utility engineering quality levels B, C and D along approximately seven miles of I-25 right-of-way from the Dona Ana Interchange south to Lohman Avenue, with an additional seven miles of densely populated utility corridors beneath several arterial roadways and interchanges.
The project commenced with a UAV (drone) flight along the entire project corridor to gather a digital ortho that would later provide a real-time high resolution mapping base for our utility survey. This work spanned several months and included coordination with both local municipalities and multistate telecommunication providers. Once completed and delivered in December 2020, the project resulted in a single continuous seven hour drone flight, hundreds of miles of utilities designated and thousands of points collected. This utility information will be invaluable to NMDOT, Molzen Corbin, the City of Las Cruces and all other stakeholders that are involved in this project.
