E. E. Robinson Park

Sugar Hill, GA

Gwinnett County prioritized the development of an active park at the undeveloped property on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard in Sugar Hill, Georgia. The 67-acres parcel contained multiple streams, steep slopes, mature landmark trees and beautiful vistas. The county planned to program the park with a multi-purpose field complex, structured picnic area, nature trail with wayfinding and nature kiosks, multiple pavilions and a large playground complex.

The team worked closely with the county staff to confirm the layout and details of all elements required to be part of the master plan. The project moved through milestones and at each completion goal provided Opinions of Probable Cost (OPCC) to the client. When bidding commenced, we confirmed that the previous cost projections were accurate. The design and implementation team were able to successfully implement a design and program to save as much of the natural area as possible. The slopes and many other disturbed areas are planted with an extensive reforestation mix to restore natural-appearing woodlands. This reforestation effort of disturbed slopes and the permanent protection of the vast tree save areas exceeded the expectations of the owner’s initial development goals.
