The northwest rail project was a proposed 41-mile, high capacity, fixed guideway transit corridor from Denver Union Station to Longmont, which passed through North Denver, Adams County, Westminster, Broomfield, Louisville, and Boulder. It was one of several major corridors in RTD’s 4.7 Billion voter-approved Fastracks program, a 12-year effort to significantly increase transit capacity in the region with exclusive fixed guideway rail and bus facilities. The program and project goals included corridor mobility improvements, regional connectivity enhancements, and the support of local community and regional land use plans.
