The team designed a transient-oriented, mixed-use community South of the Vienna-Fairfax Metro Station and north of Route 29 that incorporates a variety of townhomes, condominiums, apartments, convenience retail, commercial office, daycare and public spaces. The project, Metro West, creates a new, pedestrian-friendly interface with the Vienna Metro Station, a town center plaza combining retail and public outdoor activity space, pedestrian connections to East Blake Lane Park and a new public use recreation/community center. Bowman provided civil engineering and surveying services, to include preliminary and final engineering. Scope of services includes conceptual plan review and coordination. Detailed grading was prepared for the Town Center Plaza and buildings 6, 7 8, 9 and 10, in addition to all adjacent roadways and walkways. To establish optimal rough grading elevation for the site and to facilitate temporary drainage, an interim grading plan was developed by Bowman’s team of engineers. In addition, a final site plan was prepared for review and approval by Fairfax County and associated outside agencies. Throughout the life of this project, Bowman attended meetings and coordinate with the client, architect, utility companies, regulatory agencies and contractors to facilitate plan submission, to expedite approvals from Fairfax County DPWES, VDOT, Department of Public Works, Fairfax County Fire Marshall, and Fairfax Water to ensure the success of this project.
