Buckeye Perth Amboy Terminal is approximately an 1132-ft long T-head dock with one ship berth and three barge berths. An approximately 331-ft long access way connects the dock to the land. When the vessel access gangway was damaged at this dock, there was a need to install a new gangway. In addition, the client intended to install mooring hooks at two existing cells at this dock. Our team initiated the project by performing an underwater inspection to evaluate the condition of structures supporting the gangway and mooring hooks. Since no drawings were available for the dock structures, we performed a GPR survey to locate the rebar in cell concrete caps.
To design anchorage for the mooring hooks, coring of concrete cap was also performed to determine the thickness and compressive strength of existing concrete cap. Structural analysis of hose tower was performed to determine the loads on the gangway tower during operating and storm conditions. The installation of new gangway, strengthening of tower and new anchorage system for the tower were designed by our team. New foundations and anchorages for the installation of two new mooring hooks were also designed. We also provided construction inspection and management services during the installation of gangway and mooring hooks. Due to issues with the supplied material, we coordinated with the mooring hook supplier and gangway mechanical equipment supplier to facilitate delivery of proper material for the project.
