Although West Virginia doesn’t seize the spotlight as often as some larger states, it has several notable geological, cultural and historical distinctions. On top of being an important hub for natural energy resources and outdoor recreation (75% of the state is forest), the Mountain State produces 15% of the total coal used nationwide, and is home to one of the world’s first suspension bridges built in Wheeling in November 1849! West Virginia also has the New River Gorge Bridge, which is the longest steel arch bridge in the Western Hemisphere at 1,700 ft. Case in point, West Virginia is a perfect place for civil engineering! Bowman is proud to support the work in West Virginia and we lend our expertise on transportation projects, energy, and survey projects and will continue to evolve with the needs of our clients.
