Bowman was contracted to provide construction engineering services for the expansion of the Three Oaks Recreation Area Trail in Crystal Lake, Illinois. The project added more than 2.2 miles of stone-screened walking path, creating a continuous loop around the lake and significantly enhancing public access and recreational connectivity. The trail traced the shoreline before ascending 35 feet through a scenic switchback that linked to a nearby wooded trail system. To support maintenance and emergency response, five access roads were incorporated into the design. Additional improvements along the shoreline included riprap slope stabilization and the installation of pedestrian safety railings at key lookout points, offering safe and picturesque views of the surrounding waterscape.
Bowman’s services included comprehensive project management and administration, construction inspection to ensure adherence to design specifications and detailed documentation. The team also managed the review and approval of shop drawings, oversaw materials testing and coordinated closely with the City of Crystal Lake, the contractor and the public to help ensure the successful execution of the project.
