Bowman earned industry recognition at the ACEC Metropolitan Washington (ACEC/MW) 2025 Engineering Excellence Awards Gala for its work on the Water Park at National Landing, which received a Merit Award in the Special Projects category. Team members attended the event to celebrate the achievement alongside peers from across the region and were recognized during the awards presentation for their contributions to the project.
The Water Park at National Landing is a 1.6-acre public plaza redevelopment that strengthens connections between transit, trails and public gathering spaces within one of the region’s most active mixed-use districts. The project addressed challenges related to accessibility, pedestrian and cyclist circulation, stormwater management and utility coordination while supporting the site’s long-term redevelopment goals.
Bowman provided civil engineering, surveying and certified arborist services for the project. The firm’s work included grading and drainage design, ADA-compliant circulation improvements, utility coordination and the implementation of green stormwater infrastructure, including permeable pavers, bioretention facilities and underground detention systems. Bowman also led tree preservation and transplanting efforts to protect mature trees throughout construction.
Completed in 2023, the project transformed an underutilized public space into a destination that supports retail, recreation and community programming while improving accessibility, connectivity and environmental performance.
