Bowman played a leading role in helping Missouri establish a formal body dedicated to coordinating GIS data across state government.
Senate Bill 959, sponsored by Senator Steven Roberts and Representative Tim Taylor and signed into law by Governor Kehoe on July 9th, established the Missouri Geographical Information Systems Advisory Council (MGISAC) within the Information Technology Services Division of the Office of Administration.
To help support the bill, Bowman provided the industry’s point of view to legislators throughout the process, emphasizing the importance of geospatial data and workforce development in Missouri. Andy Dearing, executive vice president, regional manager, testified before house committees on the bill, and Steve Kasten, director, business development, stood with legislators at the bill’s signing.
The MGISAC’s charge is to advise the state on the availability, implementation and enhancement of a statewide geospatial data infrastructure for jurisdiction use, giving Missouri a unified approach to how geospatial data is built and used in its government.
Beyond formalizing an industry we work in across the state, the MGISAC gives industry partners like Bowman a seat at the table to help shape how that infrastructure evolves going forward.
