The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Eastern Services Area was constructing a new air traffic control tower and base building at the Piedmont Triad International Airport (GSO) in Greensboro, North Carolina. The standard low-activity level control tower with a standard 13,000 sq. ft. base building will be used. The new tower will provide a more modern, taller tower that will increase the line of sight for tower controllers. The base building will house the radar approach control and administrative offices.
Our team provided BIM-level fire protection and fire alarm system design services and life safety analysis as part of the design team. The fire protection and life safety systems were required to meet the latest FAA design criteria including dual exit stairs, pressurized stair shafts and complete automatic sprinkler protection.
