Located in Loudoun County on a 216-acre campus, the corporate headquarters of America Online Inc. (AOL) included office buildings, childcare facilities, data centers, secure data facilities, and parking garages. Buildings ranged in size from 20,000 sq. ft. to approximately 300,000 sq. ft. Bowman provided on-call services to the AOL campus. The LEED Gold certified AOL Childcare Center featured preservation of existing open space and forested areas, design of special outdoor play areas using modular play equipment and a water play park facility, and design of parking and site access. Special attention was paid to providing extensive erosion and sediment control measures for the protection of the surrounding undeveloped areas. It was the first LEED-certified childcare building in Virginia, and the first LEED Gold building certified in Loudoun County.
