Bowman was selected by the City of Rutland to lead engineering and design for the revitalization of Center Street between Wales Street and Merchants Row. The one-block corridor improvement supports a more walkable, accessible and flexible downtown environment with enhanced pedestrian space, green infrastructure, public gathering areas and parking.
Bowman’s work includes engineering, existing conditions and utility survey, right-of-way plans, permitting, cost estimating, stakeholder engagement and preparation of construction plans. The team is developing three design alternatives for the corridor, including concepts for one-way vehicular travel and an option that maintains the existing two-way traffic pattern.
The streetscape design addresses key public realm improvements, including curbless street design, PROWAG accessibility upgrades, protective streetscape elements, lighting, rain gardens, street trees, suspended pavement systems, parking configuration and delivery access. Bowman is also coordinating the streetscape design with planned utility replacement work to align drainage, stormwater and roadway profile improvements.
Through this work, Bowman is helping the city advance a safer, more accessible and more flexible downtown corridor that supports local businesses, pedestrian activity and long-term streetscape improvements.
