Costco Permitting & Design

Colchester, VT

Since Costco established its presence in Vermont with its inaugural location in Colchester back in 1992, our team has been integral to its evolution. Originally, the site housed Bio-Tech, which was demolished to make way for Vermont’s first and only Costco. Over the years, we’ve collaborated with Costco on various expansions, including the addition of amenities like the tire center.

In 2009, efforts intensified with the exploration of conceptual gas station designs and a warehouse expansion. However, progress was impeded by a decade-long journey of design, permitting challenges, and multiple appeals due to significant opposition to the project. Despite these hurdles, the Costco Gas Station was finally constructed in 2018. To ensure its operational readiness, enhancements to the intersection of Lower Mountain View Drive and US Route 2/7 were required. Subsequently, an amendment was granted, allowing limited hours of operation.

After a decade of perseverance and navigating regulatory complexities, the Costco Gas Station officially opened its doors in 2020. This milestone marked the culmination of a long-term commitment to enhancing Costco’s facilities in Vermont, reflecting both resilience and community engagement in the face of challenges.
