Provided professional landscape architecture services for the County of San Diego Sheriff’s Firearms Training Center. Located in Otay Mesa, the Sheriff’s Firearms Training Center provides training and qualifications for our local police, sheriffs, CIA and FBI agents.
The County of San Diego’s goal for the projects was to improve the sustainability of the facility. The project’s scope called for the removal of water-consuming turf grass and replacing it with innovative and sustainable landscape planting. The turf was removed and replaced with a water-efficient plant palette that is better adapted to San Diego’s current drought conditions. Irrigation upgrades and a redesign of the Sheriff’s Firearms Training Center’s main building’s entry landscape and parking lot island planting were also provided. These spaces now feature shaded seating, group gathering spaces and drought-tolerant planting with drip irrigation. Our team helped the county achieve its goal by reducing water consumption, thus improving the sustainability of its facility. This project now serves as a model of sustainable landscape design for future projects in the county.
