Bowman provided state-of-the-art 3D laser scanning services for Dominion Energy’s $500 million Critical Transmission Substation Security Plan program. Dominion has more than 400 electrical substations on its 6,400 miles of high-voltage power lines. 3D scanning services were conducted on over 50 substations across the Commonwealth of Virginia to capture survey grade 3-Dimensional data, perimeter fences, towers, and associated equipment, including ground elevations within each substation and around specified transmission towers outside each substation. This task included the use conventional/GPS surveying as needed to establish additional control, and to collect ground elevations and other data, as required. Deliverables included a 2D Cad drawing and file, decimated point cloud data on specific substation and transmission equipment and wires, decimated 3D point cloud data and full point cloud data.
