GWU Old Main

George Washington UniversityWashington, DC

Old Main, adjacent to 1918 F Street, was renovated to become the central administrative building housing the university’s vice presidents and their immediate staffs. The goal was to transform the interior of Old Main into an effective office space for administration, with open floor plans and shared resources like meeting rooms, collaboration spaces, copiers and pantries to maximize space and create greater efficiency.

Our engineers provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design services for the renovation of this 60,000 sq. ft., four-story historic building in Washington, DC.  The entire mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems were razed and replaced with new energy efficient equipment.  The systems consisted of new chilled water systems, hot water heating systems, replacement of three built-up air-handling units, VAV air distribution, electrical switchgear, low voltage distribution, lighting and controls, emergency power generation, fire alarm systems, domestic water distribution, sanitary and storm drainage, and fire protection design.  This is a LEED Silver design and our staff provided an energy model and Energy Star projected rating.
