Our team acted as Engineer of Record, designing critical underground station structures for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s ambitious Westside Purple Line subway extension. We were responsible for the three-level Century City/Constellation Station in Los Angeles, while also serving as Plans Reviewer for the two-level Wilshire/Rodeo Station in Beverly Hills. These stations required complex engineering to accommodate their placement beneath densely populated urban areas and their adjacency to major commercial corridors.
The design-build project involved a sophisticated approach to soil-structure interaction, 3D modeling, and precise excavation support design to ensure stability and durability. Advanced loading assessments were conducted, particularly for structural impacts from adjacent 10- to 15-story buildings along Wilshire Boulevard. Our design approach addressed the unique challenges of constructing large-scale underground infrastructure in a seismically active area, focusing on long-term resilience, safety, and seamless integration with Los Angeles’s urban landscape.
