Bowman provided Phase II engineering services for the design of the New Stearns Road. Other roadways included in this project include McLean Boulevard and IL Route 31. Bowman’s staff prepared plans, specifications, and estimates for the construction of this new four-lane roadway.
The new bridge was an IDOT approved Type, Size, and Location (TS&L). This project received a general US Army Corps of Engineers 404 permit approval. The outlet on the Fox River required an OWR Permit update & Section 404 Permit update. Extensive coordination with the Army Corps of Engineers, IDNR, CN/IC Railroad, Kane County Forest Preserve District, South Elgin, The Kane-DuPage Soil and Water Conservation District, IEPA and any other applicable agencies was required to secure all necessary permits and approvals. The design was also required to comply with the Kane County Stormwater Ordinance. Coordination and with adjacent roadway contracts (Stage 4 and 5) of Stearns Road was also an essential part of development of the plans for this phase.
