Structural Analysis

Florida

This project supported Florida Power & Light (FPL) with the structural evaluation of transmission poles accommodating distribution underbuild upgrades. The work was conducted across both 69 kV and 138 kV circuits, addressing individual poles as well as larger groups of structures to assess the feasibility of proposed modifications.

Using PLS-CADD™, our team performed detailed structural capacity analyses for each pole to determine whether existing structures could support the additional loads associated with the underbuild. The modeling also incorporated comprehensive clearance verification, ensuring that all conductor positions met the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) and FPL’s internal design standards.

The deliverables for this effort included PLS-CADD™ BAK files, pole loading and analysis summaries and formal structural analysis memos. These outputs provided FPL with clear, actionable documentation to guide decision-making and construction planning.

Through precise modeling, thorough analysis and clear reporting, this project enabled FPL to safely integrate distribution upgrades within existing transmission corridors, maximizing the use of current infrastructure while maintaining compliance and reliability.
