Bowman completed the design for the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering design for the renovation of the 42,000 sq. ft. addition to Westgate Elementary School located in Falls Church, Virginia. Since the facility almost doubled in size, the mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems were upgraded to provide the required services. The new mechanical system includes a new water source heat pump system with a closed-circuit cooling tower, boilers, and vertical water source heat pumps. The ventilation system includes energy recovery units. The controls for the building were also replaced with a new direct digital control system. The plumbing system is provided with a new hot water system. The domestic water system was completely replaced while new sanitary lines were provided for the addition. The electrical system included a new service with a new current transformer. A main electrical room was created with electrical closets in each section of the building. The lighting system was replaced with energy-efficient fixtures with lighting controls. The fire alarm system was replaced with a new addressable system. The sprinkler system was modified as needed for the existing building and expanded for the new addition.
