Bowman’s contribution to the Lynwood Urban Bike Trail in Lynwood, CA, has been awarded the 2023 American Public Works Association (APWA) Southern California Chapter Project of the Year in the Recreation and Athletic Facilities category.
The Lynwood Urban Bike Trail blends urban planning with outdoor recreation. The project was celebrated by the APWA for its commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles and enhancing community well-being. The Recreation and Athletic Facilities category specifically recognizes projects that provide quality recreational opportunities and athletic facilities to communities in Southern California.
“We’re honored to have contributed to a community amenity that not only promotes physical well-being but also promotes inclusivity and sustainability,” said Farzad Dorrani, principal of operations at Bowman. “The accolade stands as a testament to our experience in urban development and the positive impact our projects strive to achieve.”
The trail features a hot mix asphalt (HMA) bike path, seamlessly integrated curb and gutters and curb ramps to ensure accessibility for all. Retaining walls and concrete swales enhance both functionality and aesthetics, while concrete box culverts and permeable pavers contribute to efficient water management. One of the important aspects of the project was the addition of more than 250 trees in between the new landscaping of more than 7,000 new shrubs.
Additionally, the project provided amenities such as drinking fountains, pedestrian lighting, bike racks, bike path signs, wayfinding and interpretive signs along the bike trail.
We look forward to continuing to deliver projects in 2024 and beyond that redefine the landscape and enrich the lives of communities we serve.
The Lynwood Urban Bike Trail project was originally awarded to Infrastructure Engineers and the APWA recognition was presented to Infrastructure Engineers, a Bowman Company. Infrastructure Engineers was acquired by Bowman in June 2023.
